Frequently asked questions
What personal data is found?
Emails, phone numbers (Portuguese, Spanish and international), Portuguese tax numbers (NIF), Spanish DNI/NIE numbers and IBANs, which are already selected, plus payment cards if you choose them. NIFs, DNIs/NIEs, IBANs and cards only count if their check digits are right, so random numbers aren’t redacted.
What about people’s names?
Names don’t follow a pattern, so they aren’t found on their own: type them under “Words or phrases” (for example, “Mary Smith”). With “Ignore case and accents”, “MARY SMITH” and “mary smith” count too.
Does this make the PDF anonymous under the GDPR?
MovaDoc removes from the file whatever is found and redacted, but it can’t know what identifies a person in your case: an address, a license plate, a description. Review the result carefully before sharing it; deciding what to cover is up to you.
Can I anonymize several PDFs at once?
Yes. Choose several PDFs: the same patterns and words are searched in all of them, and everything found is redacted. You get a ZIP and see how many matches were redacted in each PDF. You can also save the search as a recipe. On pages without text (such as scans), the search finds nothing: the result tells you which PDFs have them.
Does my data leave my device?
No. Searching and redacting happen in your browser: the PDF and the words you type are never sent anywhere.
