Frequently asked questions
Are the file or the password uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is decrypted in your browser and neither the file nor the password leaves your device. The password isn’t stored either.
Can I open a PDF without knowing the password?
No. This tool doesn’t guess or crack passwords: it’s for people who already know it and want an unprotected copy. Only use it on files you own or are allowed to open.
Which kinds of protection are supported?
Standard PDF passwords: 40- and 128-bit RC4 and 128- and 256-bit AES (Acrobat, Word, LibreOffice and most programs). PDFs protected with digital certificates aren’t supported yet.
What if the PDF only has restrictions (for example, no printing)?
Those PDFs open without a password. The copy won’t have the restrictions, so only use it if the author allows you to.
Do the other tools open protected PDFs too?
Yes. When you choose a protected PDF in any tool, MovaDoc asks for the password and works on a decrypted copy, in memory only. The result has no password.
