How it works
Choose the PDF
Drag the file into the workspace or use the button. You can choose several at once.
Choose the options
Decide whether each PDF page starts on a new page in Word and whether the text on scanned pages is recognized (OCR).
Download the document
You get a .docx file to open in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. With several PDFs, you get one .docx for each, in a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files sent to a server?
No. The PDF is read in your browser and the .docx document is created on your device. If the PDF has scanned pages (or you choose several PDFs), MovaDoc downloads the text recognition engine from its own site before converting (about 3 MB, first time only); your PDF never leaves your device.
Will the document look exactly like the PDF?
It keeps the same text and structure: paragraphs, headings, bold and italics, lists, tables and images, in reading order (on two-column pages, the left column first). The look is approximate: forms, text boxes, charts and overlapping elements are simplified, and Word may swap fonts it doesn’t have.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Yes, with “Recognize text on scanned pages” turned on: the text on pages without text is recognized on your device, in Portuguese, English or Spanish. Results depend on the quality of the scan, and handwriting isn’t recognized. Without that option, those pages stay as images.
What about tables?
Tables with drawn lines become Word tables with the same rows and columns (merged cells included). Text lined up in columns, without lines, becomes a table without borders. Very complex tables may need some touching up.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
Yes. Choose several PDFs: each one becomes a .docx document, and you get them all in a ZIP.
