Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The header and footer are added in your browser and the PDF never leaves your device.
What can I write?
Free text in up to 6 places: left, center and right, at the top and bottom of the page. The buttons add the page number, the page count, today’s date, the file name and Bates numbering.
What is Bates numbering?
It’s a unique number for each page, padded with zeros and, if you like, with a prefix and a suffix (for example, ABC000001). It’s used in legal cases and audits to identify every page. With several PDFs, the numbering carries on from one file to the next.
Can I leave the cover without a header or footer?
Yes. Under “Start on page”, choose 2. The page number is still the page’s number in the PDF: the second page shows 2.
What if the text is long or uses another alphabet?
If the texts on one line don’t fit side by side, that line gets a smaller font so they don’t overlap. The font only has Latin characters: others (such as Chinese or emoji) show as “?”, and the tool warns you first.
